About Yoga...


The term Yoga is derived from the root word ‘yuj’ in Sanskrit which means to unite. Yes, Yoga is the science of union. It’s origin is dated back to Vedic period. However it has been documented in the form of a disciplined system by Patanjali Maharshi in the first half of the 1st millennium CE. It was always confined within the spiritual practices of Hindu, Jaina and Buddhist religions till 20th century. Now Yoga has been practiced by millions across the world. To make its far-reaching benefits reach to every nook & corner, UN has declared June 21st as International Yoga Day on Dec 11th, 2014.


There are various schools that comes under Yoga. Raja Yoga & Hatha Yoga are the most popular streams. No matter which form we follow, they all stand for the ultimate liberation. Like many think Yoga is not just about topsy turvy postures. Yes, the first step starts with body. But it should never be confined to the physical level. There are several benefits in terms of health, longevity and all. It’s should be considered as a preface to the higher realms. It’s only through consistent practice one comes to relish those higher realms.
